A Car or a Chair?

Missed this in the Washington Post this weekend about the Eames Lounge Chair.

UPDATE: The title of this post is ridiculously unclear. Of course it's a chair. The article recounts the difficult decision of the author, upon graduation from architecture school, to spend $600 on a car or on this chair. (You'll have to read the article to see which he chose...)

Beautiful. My mom has one that she has kept in storage for the last five years. I have been unable to talk her into letting me have it.

I am waiting for the kids to move on before I seriously consider one. They have already ruined every piece of furniture we own and we will continue to utilize IKEA for the replacments. It is good to have dreams.

I know this is heretical, but I've never really loved this chair. Of course, I've never sat in one, so that might go a long way toward changing my mind. But it has always looked a little too much like an old man's recliner to me. Of course I'm sure I'll begin to appreciate the appeal of an old man's recliner in the not too distant future...

Wow, chris. Don't know if you "get it" just yet... Some comments you just keep to yourself!
